Let's address common doubts.
Explosionproof panels are same as flameproof panels.
No! Explosionproof (NEC standard, USA) and flameproof panels (IEC/ATEX, Europe) are not the same. Explosionproof panels prevent external fire from entering inside the panels whereas flameproof panels are meant to contain an internal explosion and prevent it from igniting the external atmosphere.
Its good to have IP 67 rated panel instead of IP 66.
No! IP 67 rating is required where product/instrument needs protection against water. If the installation area has access to water source, then, most likely, it is an open area. Open area is a safe area and not a hazardous area. Flameproof panels are meant to be deployed in hazardous area and hence IP 66 is generally sufficient.
We can use T4 class panel instead of T6 class panel.
No! T4 class panels are used when surface temperature is expected to remain 135°C and above whereas T6 class panels provide protection against 85°C and above. This means, T6 panel start to provide protection from lesser temperature level itself thus they reduce ignition risk further.
Ex e panel works for Ex d panel in Hazardous area.
No! an Ex e panel cannot replace an Ex d panel as it cannot contain internal explosion within the panel. Ex e panels are designed to avoid sparks and high temperatures and no arcs, no sparks allowed inside whereas Ex d panels are designed to contain an internal explosion from escaping outside
Stainless Steel panels are unreasonably costly.
No! Stainless Steel (SS304 / SS316) panels contains Chromium, Nickel, Molybdenum (in SS316) alloy elements where price volatility is very high globally. SS is tougher material where tensile strength is high and it makes bending very difficult. Sophisticated tools, skilled labor and costly post weld treatments are done increasing the input cost.
Its impossible to manage exorbitant heat inside panels.
No! Its very much possible to manage heat levels inside flameproof panels and it is done through innovative product design. Flameproof panels are closed from all sides and have very limited controlled openings. If heat dissipation is not managed well then the temperature inside panel will be exorbitant and risk of explosion will be very high.
